My Grandmother’s Boxes
I grew up with my grandmother for most of my life. I loved every moment I spent with her. So, it goes without saying, that I was heartbroken when she passed away last year. My other relatives gave me one of the most important roles that I ever had to accomplish. It was to pack her things. I had to choose which ones were important and which can be given away or stocked in the storage room. It took me 4 days, 8 hours, and 45 minutes to pack away her entire life. It was deeply saddening but I was very thankful. If I didn’t do it, I wouldn’t have found her stack of wooden jewelry boxes so well-kept in a hidden drawer of her closet. There were quite a number of them and in different sizes and shapes. They were all gorgeous! I was hesitant to open them thinking I was invading my grandmother’s privacy. I was glad I did. In them, were the handmade little tokens that I have given her through the years. She kept them all. Going through those wooden jewelry boxes took all 2 days, 10 hours and 30 minutes of my packing. Time well spent, I think.
Daddy’s Little Girl
Our 16 year old daughter takes after me. She has the same hair and eye color, built, and even dimples like mine. My husband says he doesn’t mind that we are so alike because that just means that he is surrounded by two beautiful girls all the time.
Our similarities do not end there. Our daughter loves to read books as much as I do. She likes accessories like fashion rings, belts, vintage clothes, and hats just as much I do, too. In short, she loves almost all the things that I do and I greatly enjoy the fact that we have all that in common. You may think that my husband is in the losing end. He’s not at all. When our daughter is sick or crying for any reason, she always runs to her father for protection, comfort, and support. Our daughter may take after me but she’s quite a Daddy’s Little Girl.
Kinds of Jewelry Clasps
There are different ways of making sure that jewelry stays secure in the wearer’s person. These are made possible with the use of different kinds of clasps. When toggle clasps are used to secure bracelet they are called toggle bracelets. Toggle clasps are easy to put on and remove. Even a child can be taught how to do it.
Of course there are other kinds of jewelry clasps. There is the hook and eye clasp. It consists of a simple hook on one end and an “eye” on the other. One of the more popular ones is the lobster clasps because they are the most secure. It uses tension from a spring-loaded mechanism that keeps the claw securely closed. Another kind of clasp, the magnetic clasp, is useful to the elderly or handicapped. They stick together and stay secure without any effort.
