Rhodium is a silvery-white transition metal that holds the distinction of being the world’s most expensive precious metal. Rhodium costs about six times as much as gold by weight, which is why owning a pair of rhodium earrings is considered some sort of status symbol. Rhodium has an atomic number of 45 and is about as non-reactive as gold. The only way to dissolve rhodium is with sulfuric acid. Part of this metal’s appeal comes with its high reflectance, almost unique among the metals.

Rhodium is sometimes used as an expensive and flashy alternative to silver in jewelry, on which it is sometimes plated. In fact, some of the most expensive consumer items in the world are made from rhodium. This precious metal was discovered way back in 1803 by William Hyde Wollaston, who isolated it from platinum. He named it after the Latin word rhodon, which means rose. William Hyde Wollaston was also the one who discovered palladium.

Decorative Jewelry

Earrings are more than just decorative jewelry for the ear lobes; they often represent style, flair, and the way a person sees his or her self. There are many different types of earrings, such as patterned acrylic earrings, that can be worn by both men and women of any age. While fancy, jeweled earrings are usually reserved for evening wear, every other shape and style can be worn with any fashion, either casual or formal, for both night or day.

There are two basic types of earrings which are the pierced and the clip-on. With pierced earrings, the most popular styles include simple studs, posts with dangling objects hanging off the front, and posts which hold either a round hoop or hugged-style earring. Many pierced earrings attach to the ear with a wire running through the earlobe rather than a post. Clip-on earrings lost much of their popularity when pierced earrings came into style during the 1970′s, but have since made a comeback in the last decade.

There are two general types of earrings – the pierced and the clip-on. The pierced variety comes in different styles that range from the stud to the chandelier or drop type. In between are the pendants, various dangling earrings and hoops. Clip- on earrings follows the same styles. The only difference is that they are clipped on the ears rather than attached though a piercing in the ears.

If you are November-born, you will probably be interested in citrine earrings. Citrine is quartz whose color range from yellow to gold. It is called by different names. As ‘stone of the mind’, it is supposed to increase psychic power according to ancient cultures. In modern times, it is known as the lucky ‘Merchant’s Stone’. If placed in the cash drawer, it is supposed to draw in sales.

Like they say, all that glitter isn’t gold. It takes some kind of smarts to get the best deals when purchasing jewelry. Earrings are our favorites. How do you determine the better quality of earrings? It all depends on the stone used and earring findings.

Earring findings are also called earring components. It refers to the bits and parts used in composing an earring. Jewelry crafters will know that earring findings consist of ear studs, posts, earring connectors, wires and other materials used to make earrings. There is an endless variety as well as differences in quality. When buying earrings, as in the case of any kind of jewelry, quality is determined by all these components.
