Varying Qualities of the Cable Chain in Jewelry

The most common and simplest form of chain is the cable chain, also referred to as a link chain. It consists of several round or oval links of the same size. In jewelry, cable chains are made of precious metals such as gold or sterling silver. A silver cable necklace can be worn by itself; often they are fitted with enhancements such as pendants. When used as a bracelet charms are usually attached to enhance its beauty.

Some necklaces are made such that the enhancements are made an integral part of the piece as opposed to hanging from it. The chain will be attached to each side of the pendant and ends in a clasp. The centerpiece can be large or small and can be light or heavy. That is why chains come in a variety of sizes and thickness. A thin chain offers a daintier look while a thick chain comes across as bolder.

Arts and Crafts with the Kids

I am a mother of two girls aged six and eight. Being a full time mom, I always spend lots of time with my daughters and we do lots of activities together. Whenever I bake, they join me in the kitchen and help and if I fix our garden, they are always excited to join and get dirty with the soil. But out most favorite activity is doing arts and crafts.

We now have a collection of their art works and heir crafts in a special corner of our house called the ‘art corner.’ It’s filled with paintings, collages and drawings. But recently, they got hooked into making a spring bracelet to the point wherein we had to make a special bracelet holder for all the ones they made. Aside from that, they also use and wear them whenever they go to school.

Precious Metal

Rhodium is a silvery-white transition metal that holds the distinction of being the world’s most expensive precious metal. Rhodium costs about six times as much as gold by weight, which is why owning a pair of rhodium earrings is considered some sort of status symbol. Rhodium has an atomic number of 45 and is about as non-reactive as gold. The only way to dissolve rhodium is with sulfuric acid. Part of this metal’s appeal comes with its high reflectance, almost unique among the metals.

Rhodium is sometimes used as an expensive and flashy alternative to silver in jewelry, on which it is sometimes plated. In fact, some of the most expensive consumer items in the world are made from rhodium. This precious metal was discovered way back in 1803 by William Hyde Wollaston, who isolated it from platinum. He named it after the Latin word rhodon, which means rose. William Hyde Wollaston was also the one who discovered palladium.

Earrings are more than just decorative jewelry for the ear lobes; they often represent style, flair, and the way a person sees his or her self. There are many different types of earrings, such as patterned acrylic earrings, that can be worn by both men and women of any age. While fancy, jeweled earrings are usually reserved for evening wear, every other shape and style can be worn with any fashion, either casual or formal, for both night or day.

There are two basic types of earrings which are the pierced and the clip-on. With pierced earrings, the most popular styles include simple studs, posts with dangling objects hanging off the front, and posts which hold either a round hoop or hugged-style earring. Many pierced earrings attach to the ear with a wire running through the earlobe rather than a post. Clip-on earrings lost much of their popularity when pierced earrings came into style during the 1970′s, but have since made a comeback in the last decade.

In between are the pendants, various dangling earrings and hoops. Clip- on earrings follows the same styles. The only difference is that they are clipped on the ears rather than attached though a piercing in the ears.

How to Wear a Necklace

MyPreciousJewelry

Looking for the right necklace takes more than choosing the right design. Necklaces come in various lengths; your choice should consider your body features. If you have a round face, a short neck and a stocky build, stay away from short necklaces. A 24 inch silver chain is a better choice as it will draw away attention from the chin and neck area thereby creating a lean look. Be creative in layering several chains for a more stylish look.

The earring is another kind of jewelry that can help in masking physical imperfections. Dangling earrings are coquettish and attracts attention. But they are not recommended for short women. They can, however, make tall and trim women look lofty and elegant. Necklaces come in a variety of lengths and widths. Learn to use them to your advantage.

Elegant Locks for Beautiful Clasps

Wednesday, February 2, 2011 @ 11:02 AM
MyPreciousJewelry

Since jewelry has been a part of our everyday wardrobe, we make sure that it will stay secure in our body when we wear them. This is made possible with fasteners that are part of certain kinds of jewelry. When we buy a new piece of jewelry, we not only ask about the quality of the metal; we also inspect the security of the fastener used. Bracelets and necklaces will be pieces that require a fastener. There are different kinds of fasteners that jewellers use.

The toggle clasp is one kind. Toggle charm bracelets have a loop in one end and a bar in the other. The bracelet is secure on the wrist by inserting the bar in the loop. Because the bar is longer than the diameter of the loop, it holds the two ends together. The toggle clasp is considered one of the more beautiful types of clasps; in fact, they are rather expensive. Unlike other clasps that require a spring the toggle clasp manages to secure a chain without the use of a spring.

There are different ways of making sure that jewelry stays secure in the wearer’s person. These are made possible with the use of different kinds of clasps. When toggle clasps are used to secure bracelet they are called toggle bracelets. Toggle clasps are easy to put on and remove. Even a child can be taught how to do it.

Of course there are other kinds of jewelry clasps. There is the hook and eye clasp. It consists of a simple hook on one end and an “eye” on the other. One of the more popular ones is the lobster clasps because they are the most secure. It uses tension from a spring-loaded mechanism that keeps the claw securely closed. Another kind of clasp, the magnetic clasp, is useful to the elderly or handicapped. They stick together and stay secure without any effort.
