Sometimes you can find the most beautiful things in the most unexpected places. I found the most delightful charm bracelet at a flea market. The bracelet had sterling silver charms on it. The charms were mostly travel icons. Since I love to travel it appealed to me.

Sterling silver charms look like miniature pendants. They can come in any shape. There are silver charms of animals, shoes and bags. There are also silver charms that have enamel or colored stones in them. These enamels and colored stones make the charms more interesting. People sometimes collect charms as souvenirs and add them to their bracelet.

How to Care for Delicate Glass Jewelry

hand-crafted-jewelryJewelry enthusiasts might be surprised to learn that there’s a science behind keeping your gemstones, baubles and precious metals scratch- and dent-free. By consulting the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, you can get an idea for which pieces of jewelry should be stored together. For instance, diamonds rank a 10 out of 10 on the scale, meaning that they are hard enough to scratch just about any other gemstone or metallic band.

It’s advisable to store your hand crafted jewelry in a separate drawer or box, so that it doesn’t mingle with diamonds. You might occasionally decide to clean the glass jewelry, in which case I’d recommend liquid dish soap and warm water. Once the surface is scrubbed, dry the jewelry gently with a cotton cloth and allow it to air dry fully before replacing it in an airtight container.

Pairing Glass Pendants with a Fashionable Ensemble

glass-necklacesEvery once in a while, I can sense my style growing a bit stale and dated. The indicators vary – sometimes I’ll see some ads I like in a fashion magazine or I’ll take note of a model’s outfit on one of those runway shows on TV. In any case, it’s important for a lady to shake up her look from time to time. Since I don’t make enough money to buy designer clothing on a regular basis, I’ve turned my attention to the accessories market.

Glass necklaces can turn a tired, played-out look into a whole new ensemble. Glass pendants pair nicely with a V-neck sweater, a button-up blouse or a turtleneck. In all three cases, the idea is to accentuate the neck and to allow the necklace to hang freely. If you’re anything like me – a fashionable lady on a budget – you’ll relish the opportunity to spice up your outdated wardrobe

A New Way to Find Homemade Crafts

craftfair

Craft fairs were once the only viable outlet for artisans to sell their homemade wares. Every summer my grandmother and I would head to the annual arts and crafts expo in our small town, seeking out the latest in unique jewelry designs. For me, the fairs offered a chance to buy stunning jewelry at an affordable price. Later on I came to relish the opportunity to support artists and craftsmen at the local level.

Although art fairs are just as popular now as they ever were, consumers have a wide variety of options thanks to the popularity of Internet commerce. Rather than traveling from town to town trying to sell a few items and paying transportation costs along the way, merchants can base operations out of their own home. Customers looking for a stylish hand crafted necklace can find the perfect piece without going out of their way to find it.

Cultivating a Unique Look

Over the years, I’ve amassed an impressive collection of handmade arts and crafts. Though I’m fond of any unique knickknack or bauble that happens to catch my eye, there’s a special place in my heart for homemade jewelry. These accessories are good for more than just collecting dust on some high shelf in the living room – they can be shown off on a daily basis.

In my book, artisan necklaces are pieces of wearable art. Every woman’s body is a canvas and it’s up to her to make a statement with the accessories she has at her disposal. I like to pick out a striking ensemble of dress, shoes and handbag first, then I choose one of my many glass necklaces to complement the look. Since every piece of jewelry in my collection is unique, I’m never concerned about matching another woman at the party by mistake.
